Buying a car in Spain: how to avoid fraud and hidden issues

Buying a car in Spain, especially on the second-hand market, always carries risks. A vehicle may look perfect on the outside, but could have hidden legal restrictions, serious past accidents, or tampered mileage.

Our goal is to ensure the client purchases a vehicle that is legally clean and technically sound, without surprises after the operation.

Main Risks When Buying a Car in Spain

1. Tampered mileage. Very common in cars from Europe and among resellers. The dashboard shows one figure, the history shows another.

2. Hidden accidents and repairs. A car may have suffered a serious accident, insurance repairs, or even been declared a total loss, but visually it might not be apparent.

3. Legal restrictions (liens, seizures, encumbrances). The vehicle may have debts, a lien, credit, or court rulings. Such a car cannot be properly processed.

4. Issues with VAT and other taxes. Incorrect invoices, missing VAT, or poorly managed transactions with companies or freelancers.

5. Incomplete documentation. Missing original documents, CoC, maintenance history, or genuine service records.

How We Protect the Client

Our team:

  • verifies the vehicle in DGT and other public databases;
  • analyzes the car's history, mileage, possible accidents, and repairs;
  • checks for liens, debts, credits, and other restrictions;
  • reviews the correspondence between VIN, documents, and the vehicle's actual condition;
  • helps formalize the transaction to ensure the buyer’s rights are protected.

We act as a filter: only vehicles and transactions that can be completed safely reach our clients.
